![]() Sometimes when you watch the pros on the television, you won't really acknowledge they have a pre-shot routine because they'll be setting up to the golf ball and the attitude will cut to that live shot. So here, let's look at pre-shot routines and how important a pre-shot routine can be for your golf. The qualitative data provides an insight into how elite golfers use their psychological skills to control psychological states such as flow and enhance performance.Pre-Shot Routine - Golf (Video) - by Pete Styles There were a few overlapping data points between baseline and intervention conditions for the performance scores. The results indicated that all three clients improved their mean stroke average and increased their mean flow scores from baseline to intervention. ![]() Their performance and flow state experiences were analyzed using a single-subject, multiple baselines, across subjects design combined with a procedure to monitor clients' internal experience (Wollman, 1986). After gathering this information the first author applied his academic and consultancy expertise to help clients fit their psychological strategies into a preshot routine for putting, driving, iron play, chipping, and sand shots. Interviews were used to explore the experi-ential knowledge and psychological strategies of each golfer. This study examined the effect of a client-centered approach to consultancy on the performance and flow experiences of three elite golfers during golf competitions organized by the European Golf Tour. ![]() In conclusion, the type of intervention used has a significant effect on how well a player accurately performs on the golf putting green. Results revealed a significant effect for intervention type, with the relaxed hands intervention being the strongest predictor of accuracy. A one-way ANOVA was performed to test the statistical significance intervention type (pre-shot routine) on putting accuracy. Putting attempts were made and ball distance from hole was recorded for each attempt. The aim of the study is to determine if one of the intervention types had a better outcome on putting accuracy, after each player was able to learn and practice the intervention techniques for a given amount of time. ![]() The three interventions used included relaxing the hands before putting, relaxing the face before putting, and doing nothing before putting. To study the effects of relaxation techniques used as a pre-shot routine for putting, a group of 36 San Diego area golfers were selected and divided into three groups to test out three different interventions. ![]() Putting accuracy is easy to describe as it simply refers to how close to the hole a putter can putt the ball. Their pre-shot routines serve to help focus and mentally visualize their shots. Higher level golfers benefit from psychological interventions, and already have a higher sense of ‘self-efficacy’. ![]()
